THE TRACY SYSTEM OF KENPO
Our reference Library covers three main areas
1. Articles we have on our Web site
2. Recommend books to read -- main page
3. Links to other sites where accurate information
can be found
For almost all of your book purchases I am going to recommend http://www.amazon.com
ANOTHER AMAZON PLUS: Amazon publishes very good reviews - most of the review are from people who have bought and read the book - also you can add your own review - and send it into Amazon! The reviews also rate most of the books on a 1-5 scale! These reviews can really keep you from getting a "dog"! WARNING: Some of the reviews are "self serving" from the author or publisher or "friends" or a student from that style trying to make the book look good!
One of the most common questions I get is: "Are there any good books on Kenpo"? Or, are there any good books on the martial arts?
AMERICAN KENPO STYLISTS: This five volume set is a MUST - so you will
know if your instructor is teaching "Ed Parker's" American Kenpo - or just
teaching what he has made up and is calling "American Kenpo". Volume 5 outlines
what is to be taught at each belt level! If you are being taught less than 24 techniques per belt you are being
taught less than what Ed Parker established as the "MINIMUM" requirements for each belt. (Buyer Beware)!
The only book Ed Parker ever wrote that was on true Kenpo was his first published
back in 196? "Kenpo Karate". I highly recommend this book to everyone. It should
be the first book you get for your "kenpo library"
edge one of the sword: Good books are expensive - and a library of 50-100 books can be quite and investment. The double edged sword:
Edge Two: Your library will be a lifetime investment. Plus you will not have direct answer to most of your question? Not rehashed fairy tales and half-truths!
I will divide my recommendation for a "Martial Arts" library into four levels!
LEVEL 1. The basic library.
A basis library that cover basic books to give you a "strong" understanding of the Martial arts. Many of the books will deal only with the physical martial arts. Others will deal more with the mental and spiritual aspect of the arts.
LEVEL 2. Filling out the basic library
Books with more depth and dealing with more special issues,
LEVEL 3. Branching out into all the martial arts.
If you want to the have the "best" book on each art I will give you my opinion. My opinion has nothing to do with my person opinion of the arts - but does this the best book on the style. Example: What is the best book on Wing Chun? or Hung Gar.
LEVEL 4. History and heavy research.
Just as it implies - History and research books.
New books will be added to each list all the time!
HARD TO FIND BOOKS!
I will Keep on the WEB a list of books that are out of print and wanted by collectors: Keep you eyes open at used books store or "Garage Sales"
Just the other day I ran into an "old timer" with 20 new - Still in the boxes "Bruce Lee's original book - published by James Lee!
